Because creating and using web-based presentations will extend your reach while saving you time and money. At Accordent, we know that communication is essential to a company's success. Now, more than ever, interacting with and educating employees, customers, and partners is key to longevity and profitability. In today's business world, nearly everyone has web access. Why rely on costly and disruptive air travel or expensive documents to convey information when everything you need to communicate can be conveyed via the web? Whether introducing a new product, educating sales people, providing internal training, or releasing critical information to shareholders and analysts, web-based presentation software is an efficient, economical, and superior method of distributing live and recorded information to any audience, anywhere, anytime.

What types of companies are using Accordent software?

We are proud to have developed a suite of software products designed and priced to enable a wide range of companies with diverse needs to communicate more effectively and realize a substantial ROI. Because our clients include leading content delivery networks and satellite companies, our software has been developed to scale up to tens of thousands of simultaneous users and to leverage the most sophisticated delivery networks. At the same time, Accordent developed software that is incredibly easy to use and flexible enough to meet the needs of its Global 5000 clients and its small company clients alike.

What level of technical skill is required to run Accordent's software?

None. Accordent's Presenter suite of authoring tools is wizard based and requires absolutely no hard coding. A professional presentation can be created in minutes with little more than the click of a button. The software automatically converts a standard PowerPoint® presentation for distribution over the Web, interactive functionality can be included with little effort, and an interface can be customized in seconds- and you don't\ even need to know what HTML stands for. HR personnel, CEOs, and sales people without any technical experience are successfully using our software right now. And if you don't want to produce your presentations internally, Accordent and its partners can do it for you at a competitive price and at an unparalleled level of quality.

How can I start to figure out which Accordent product is right for me?

Accordent offers several unique products that offer different features, functionality and price points. To begin the process of narrowing which product is right for you, the key questions are usually: i) are you interested in doing on demand presentations only or both live and on demand; ii) is it important to be able to customize the audience interface with your unique branding; and iii) are you interested in producing streaming content in the Real format only or do you want to produce content in multiple platforms. Additional things to consider will be the level of interactivity that you want to include and how large your intended audience will be.

there additional hardware requirements or hidden costs?

Accordent's software is designed to work on a standard workstation, encoding box, or caching box. While a web server and streaming server are required to distribute the presentation, Accordent's software works with all major servers and requires no independent hardware. Just throw the disc in your PC and start creating professional presentations in minutes. Additionally, your audience will not need a client side plug-in to view presentations, and you can use the content delivery network of your choosing.

Can I publish content internally behind my firewall and externally over the internet?

Yes both. Content can be published internally utilizing your network, and/or content can be published out over the internet in conjunction with a 3rd party content delivery network.

Can I use my existing hardware to publish an Accordent presentation?

Yes. You can use existing hardware currently used for encoding, or serving your streaming media (Streaming Media Server) and HTML/Graphics (Web Server).

Why should my company choose a software solution?

Accordent chose to develop a software solution for several key reasons- your protection, your individual needs, and your bottom line. First, software can reside behind a firewall- essential to protecting the confidentiality your information. Second, Accordent's software is modular and can be easily customized to meet your requirements. Additionally, Accordent's software can leverage your legacy content delivery network and hardware and software infrastructure, so there are no hidden costs and, unlike most ASP solutions, our presentation software has an interface that can be customized to promote your company and brand.

What if I have different requirements in six months?

We know that there is nothing worse than making a technology investment that is obsolete in six months. That is why Accordent developed software that is modular and can be easily upgraded, enhanced, and customized. With Accordent, you have a standards based solution that can be molded and sculpted to meet your evolving needs.

Is it difficult to create a synchronized presentation?

Every Accordent product includes a wizards-based workflow that makes it incredibly easy to synchronize streaming and non streaming content. Content authors can create both live and on-demand content with no hand coding and with little or no knowledge of streaming media.

Can Accordent's software be used in conjunction with our existing infrastructure?

Accordent's software is standards based and operates within virtually any network environment. All components can exist behind the firewall completely independent of any third-party hosting service provider. And if users are using Accordent's Enterprise Solutions, you can also utilize 3rd party external networks while simultaneously using you internal infrastructure.

Is there any software that is downloaded to a viewer?

Accordent's software does not require any proprietary client side plug in. With an Accordent presentation, end users utilize their existing Internet explorer or Netscape browsers to view an interactive presentation.

If a customer has previously developed Flash presentations, can those presentations be incorporated into an Accordent presentation?

Certainly. In addition to several other types of content, Flash content can be incorporated into an Accordent presentation with the click of a button.

How can I give my customer a demo and will Accordent work with me and the customer?

You (or your client) can request a 14-day demonstration of any Accordent product. And from download through the demonstration process, Accordent will gladly support you in your sales efforts by collaborating with you and your customer.

How can we determine the quality of the live video feeds be?

The video quality is determined by the bitrate chosen during the encoding process. It is possible to publish to multiple bandwidth speeds, for both RealNetworks and Windows Media, to accommodate the requirements of viewers connecting at different speeds. Here are some suggested bandwidth targets to accommodate the best quality of service for viewers:

I have multiple Osprey cards and I do not seem to be getting audio.

Make sure you have selected the appropriate Osprey card, as well as the input you are using.

Live and on demand

300k - LAN users - 320x240 (frame size) - 15 Frames Per Second
100k k - DSL/ISDN users - 240x180 - 10 frames per second
56k - Dial up users - 176x132 - 7 frames per second

How big will the media files be?

The file size is dependent on the bandwidth option that is selected and the length of the video or audio. Size of content can be calculated by using a simple equation (Bitrate per second) multiplied by (Length of presentation in seconds).

How big will the other files be, i.e. PowerPoint slides?

The slide sizes are dependant on the number of slides and the images within the slides. The less graphics intensive the slide, the smaller the resulting file size. Using the Accordent slide conversion process, most slides will convert to less than 20 kilobytes. The interface that makes up the look and feel of the presentation is always quite small (typically 1 megabyte or less).

What speeds are available for the audience download?

Accordent can accommodate low, medium and high bandwidth selections within the workflow. This allows you to accommodate different bandwidths by importing multiple media clips authored at different bandwidths. We enable you to simplify this publishing process by publishing multiple bandwidths at once. So the choice is yours regarding what to offer the end users.

How many concurrent connections can I support per broadcast?

It depends upon the internal or outsourced network you will be using to distribute presentations. Often, a CDN (Content Distribution Network) is a good option because it takes the burden off your networks if you are expecting a moderate audience (30 simultaneous users at 40k (40kbps) bandwidth will consume near 1.5 megabytes or a T1 connection). If you are serving internally (your own network), then multicast is a good option for distributing your contact.

What web servers should I use?

Accordent products are standards-based and support virtually every type of web server. The specific server requirements are:

  • FTP publishing to web directories- this allows the content to get published from our product to the web server)
  • ASP or PHP enabled - You need this if you decide to use PresenterPRO's Interactivity, Polling, Moderated Q&A, and Registration.
  • Read/Write permission on the web directory - This is specific to making the CGI scripts (ASP/PHP) work appropriately.

What type of video capture cards are required, recommended?

PresenterPRO works best with any capture device that has full WDM support with ActiveX controls. In other words, use a video capture card that comes with drivers because you can leverage more from our product, like Simulstream (a feature that lets you export multiple media streams from one card) or close captioning support.

What is the difference between In-band & Out-of-Band Synchronization?

In-band synchronization is a process that binds the streaming media (audio and/or video) with the synchronized, non-streaming content (PowerPoint slides, URLs, etc.) at the encoder prior to delivery. Once the content is bound together at the encoder, it is delivered as a single output.
Out-of-band synchronization does not bind the streaming media and the non-streaming content at the encoder, but rather, delivers each component of the presentation separately. As a result, the non-streaming media can be manipulated during delivery to enhance scalability and to leverage a greater range of video and audio options, including phone bridges and closed circuit television.
